22 Reasons Why Tedesco Is The Best In The West

  • 22 Reasons Why Tedesco Is The Best In The West

When Jarryd Hayne left the rugby league world behind to pursue the bright lights of the NFL there was some worry that NSW and Western Sydney wouldn't see a talent on his level for some time. For the Wests Tigers, the retention of James Tedesco has meant that such worries have abated and it's time to get excited.

Tigers fans would count themselves lucky that Tedesco didn't stick with a deal to head to the nations capital last off season because he's been one of their best, both in attack and defence.

He's shown that scoring and setting up tries are his bread and butter but it's another part of his game which has defined him as one of the best fullbacks in the competition. You'll often hear this wisdom of rugby league 'experts': "saving tries is just as important as scoring them". Tedesco has listened.

James Tedesco has saved 22 tries after 15 matches in 2015 - that's almost 1.5 try saves a game - the most of any player this season!

Combine tries scored and tries saved and he's on a whole other level, leaps and bounds above the rest of the competition.

The Tigers have long been the team that beats their opponents with relentless, unpredictable offense. It's been well documented recently that they're not doing enough to prop up their defence, so often a source of premiership potential, but it seems that Tedesco has already begun to usher in a new era of safety in the back-field for the Wests Tigers.

Have Your Say: Do you think Tedesco should've been given a chance in Origin 1 this year, and will he ever get an opportunity there now that Dugan has made the position his own and Moylan is seemingly the next in line?
